Focus & Passion

Whether simply for recreation, to increase focus and creativity, expand ones mind or even make peace with past traumas and/or addictions – Shrooms Now believe access to psychotropic substances are a fundamental right in a free society. Psychedelic mushrooms are our passion, and we’re proud to offer the fruits of our labor of love to our fellow Canadians for whatever needs they may have.

Types of Magic Mushrooms

Foraging for wild mushrooms is dicey. There are thousands of species, many with very similar features. One part of the identification process is the creation of a spore print, which involves pressing the cap gill-side down onto a sheet of paper (usually both dark and white to see contrast) so that its spores are released.

There are dozens of species of mushroom within the genus Psilocybe. Most of them are on the small side — the average size is a 3-inch stalk and a 1-inch cap. When fresh, they usually have light grayish, yellowish or brownish stems with brown or brown-and-white caps and dark gills. We’ll look at just a few of the most well-known varieties.

  • Psilocybe cubensis is on the larger side as far as magic mushrooms go. It’s also one of the most common. Called the common large Psilocybe, golden cap or Mexican mushroom, it has many different types. The cap is usually reddish brown, with a white or yellowish stem. When bruised or crushed, its sticky flesh often turns bluish. Some people consider this a definitive sign of finding a magic mushroom, but some toxic types of mushrooms bruise as well. It’s usually found in moist, humid climates and grows on the dung of grazing animals like cattle.
  • Psilocybe semilanceata or liberty cap is a common psilocybin mushroom. In general, P. semilanceata is found in damp, grassy fields usually populated by cattle or sheep but unlike P. cubensis, it doesn’t grow directly on the dung. It’s a small mushroom, either light yellow or brown, with a very pointed cap. Another psilocybe mushroom, Psilocybe pelliculosa, is often mistaken for P. semilanceata, but its psychotropic properties are weaker.
  • Psilocybe baeocystis has a dark brown cap and brownish or yellowish stem when fresh. It can be found in fields in addition to growing on rotting logs, peat or mulch. Nicknames include potent Psilocybe, blue bell and bottle cap.

So do people who take magic mushrooms just pop a few into their mouths? Next, let’s learn about what’s considered a “dose” and the ways in which people consume magic mushrooms.

This gift of nature contains psilocybin, a psychedelic compound, that will alter your thoughts and emotions. You’ll experience a change in the world around you when like halos around lights and objects and illusions such as tasting sounds or hearing colors.

Are Magic Mushrooms dangerous?

The risk is small, some users are accidentally poisoned from eating the poisonous variety, others combine magic mushrooms with a substance of abuse or other medication.

Leave the picking to the hunters who are knowledgeable in mushroom identification.

How does it taste?

When taken raw it has an earthy flavor and a rubbery texture. It’s not like the mushrooms that you use for cooking to make the food delicious like Shitake.

Can you get addicted?

Magic mushrooms are not addictive you can opt out without any side effects. But like LSD you become tolerant to the effects quickly and need to take more on your next trip.

WHAT SCHEDULE SHOULD I FOLLOW?
James Fadiman recommends taking a microdose once every three days. For most people, morning is the best time because the beneficial effects will last throughout the day, and also because nighttime microdosing could interfere with sleep.

Take a mushroom microdose on Day 1. Then do not take a microdose on Day 2 or Day 3.

Then, take another mushroom microdose on Day 4.

Observe the effects throughout this process by taking daily notes in a journal.

Continue the process of microdosing two times per week for several weeks. Take notes throughout the entire process on both short-term, in-the-moment effects, and long-term changes in your mood, energy, and social behavior.

Follow your usual routine while microdosing. You should not change what you do. The purpose is to enhance your day-to-day existence by integrating microdoses into your routine.

However, when you try microdosing for the first time, take a day off from work and social commitments. It will give you a chance to observe and notice any unusual effects before microdosing in a more public situation.

Be vigilant in observing the effects of microdosing on the two days between doses. Many people perceive increased feelings of flow, creativity, and energy the day after they microdose, as well as the day of microdosing.

Microdosing every day is not recommended. Psychedelics such as psilocybin produce a tolerance, so you might see diminishing returns after a few days. This is why Fadiman suggests leaving a couple of days between each dose.#microdose #psilocybinmushrooms #magicmushrooms #buyshrooms

How psilocybin can help you break bad habits

Dr. Garcia-Romeu has also seen psychedelic mushrooms work to break habits, like smoking. “We’re still trying to determine the nuts and bolts of it, but what people tell us is that it helps them to make changes in terms of understanding what’s really important to them, having insight into what’s healthy and unhealthy, and what they would rather be doing long-term,” he explains. “There are medications that are out there on the market like Oxycontin, which easily people can overdose and die from. That’s not a risk from psilocybin or LSD.” — Albert Garcia-Romeu, PhD
While Dr. Garcia-Romeu advocates for more research into treating medical conditions with mushrooms, he emphasizes that using them in this way is very different from buying them from a friend or taking them at a party. “The participants have all been screened to be mentally and physically well, and the substance is administered in a controlled setting and proven to be clean,” he says. He explains that when you buy drugs illegally, you really have no idea what’s in them, and of course mixing them with alcohol or other drugs could lead to some pretty detrimental consequences.

But Dr. Garcia-Romeu maintains that when taken correctly, they can be beneficial—and far more safe than some of the alternatives. “There are medications that are on the market, like Oxycontin, that people can easily overdose and die from. That’s not a risk from psilocybin or LSD.” There are, however, psychological risks. Dr. Garcia-Romeu says 25 to 30 percent of the participants in his studies—quite a hefty slice—have experienced negative side-effects when taking the psychedelic; but ultimately, he says, they still took something positive away from the treatment.#psilocybinmushrooms #psilocybe #shroom#magicmushrooms #buyshrooms #shroomsnow

How to Microdose with Magic Mushrooms
Microdosing is an art that can be hard to get right. That said, those who are experienced with psychedelics should have no problem fine-tuning the craft to obtain the results they’re looking for.

Dr. Fadiman suggests only microdosing if you have previous experience with psychedelics, and to start by doing 3/10ths of a gram of dry psilocybe mushrooms once every three days. Taking two days off between microdoses gives you a chance to really feel the benefits of the dose, and helps your body avoid becoming accustomed to frequent doses.

Since everyone’s body is going to respond and uptake the mushrooms differently, it’s important to downsize or increase the dose to your bodies preference. If things start glowing, you’re taking too much. The effect should be something to the effect of the afterglow bliss you typically feel after a regular, large dose of psychedelics. A mild influence should be felt that could lead to feeling more focused, a bit happier or less jaded, with finer acuity, quicker reaction times, or less social anxiety.
It’s recommended to microdose with a clear intention, and to approach it very seriously. Keep a journal to track the changes in your perception – this will also help you know whether you need to increase or decrease your dose. Ideally, you should be able to go about your normal life without noticing any perceptual effects; but at the end of the day you may feel as if you have been more productive, creative, or connected. Eating well, exercising, and engaging in spiritual pursuits will almost certainly help to boost the effect of your microdosing.

If you start to feel anxious or have trouble sleeping during a microdosing routine, stop for a few days and lower your dose. Never microdose for longer than a few weeks at a time, as the long-term effects of microdosing are not known.

Remember that what works for one person may not work for another, and dive into your microdosing routine as something new and exciting that you can develop to your own personal needs. Happy microdosing! #microdose #psilocybinmushrooms #shrooms#magicmushrooms #buyshrooms
